The College Prep Boot Camp is a six-session course to help prepare you for the expectations of college or university life.
The boot camp will be in June 2025. The sessions are small group tutoring with a limit of 5 students per session. They will be offered twice a week for three weeks. You can take all or some of the sessions. You can choose from a Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday schedule. There are four time slots: 9-10am, 10-11am, 1-2pm, & 2-3pm. Priority is given to students taking all sessions. Single sessions will only be available if there is room during the day and time slot you want.
Check the calendar for availability: WOW Tutoring Services Calendar
The complete boot camp (all 6 sessions): $250
Single sessions: $50
The course includes:
Session 1- Time Management- This is the biggest obstacle most college students face. They lack time management skills to succeed and still have time for a life away from class and studying.
This session will teach you how to:
Set Priorities
Create a Study Schedule
Set Reminders
Create Personal Deadlines
Held June 2nd or 3rd.
Session 2- Study Skills- This is another obstacle most college students face. Even if they did have to study in high school, the expectation in college is more than what most people experience prior to college. For example, the expectation with most classes is for every hour you are in class a week, you are expected to spend 3 hours outside of class studying and preparing for the next class.
This session will teach you how to:
How to adjust your current study habits
Improve your use of the Study Schedule
How to use the Pomodoro Method
How to retain information & prepare for specific types of tests
Held June 4th or 5th.
Session 3- Self-Advocacy & Navigating the college/university system- There is a "language" spoken on college and university campuses full of terms and expectations. People on the campuses assume students know these terms and expectations, but most do not.
This session will teach you how to:
How to write professional emails
How to follow the Chain of Command on a college campus
What to do when you need help, classes or otherwise
How to "speak" college
Held June 9th or 10th.
Session 4- Career Goal Setting- Many times college students pick a major with no idea how they will use it, but because it was easy or fun. I did this. This is the opposite of how to pick a major. You should start with a career goal in mind and then go from there.
This session will teach you how to:
How to explore your career options
How to take career assessments to identify your strengths (& weaknesses)
How to conduct job analyses to ensure the career is right for you
How to explore the degree options that correspond with the career field your interested in
Held June 11th or 12th.
Session 5- Selecting the Right Major & Degree Planning- Once you have your career goal set, it is time to figure your major and find your degree plan. Many times students start with the school they want to attend and then pick a major, but have no clue how to figure our what they are required to take to get the degree.
This session will teach you how to:
Finding the degree that matches your career goal
Find the school that offers your degree
How to read a degree plan
How to make sure you are taking the courses that count toward your major
Held 16th or 17th.
Session 6- Course Selection & 1st Semester Advice- The final step in prepping for college is figuring out what classes to take and how to register for them. This session also includes some final bits of advice to help make the first semester and beyond a smoother process.
This session will teach you how to:
How to decide what classes to take
How to register
How many classes to take the 1st semester
How to be successful your first semester
Held 18th or 19th.
